At McAfee’s station, in 1788, Mrs. McAfee said- “Young man, I have just taken seven loaves of bread out of the oven, so take what you want.” Based on this documentation of a bread oven in Kentucky (less than fifty miles away), we now have a bread oven. Lots of research and information about bread has gone into creating a program about 18th century frontier bread making. Join us for a hands-on experience in:  How to make yeast; How to use the hominy block & corn gritter; Different types of flours; How to make different types of breads; Why we let bread dough rise; How the clay bread oven functions; Heating the oven; How to bake bread.
