The days are getting shorter, so cooler temperatures will also be here.  Fall flowers will be the focus of these hikes:  fall asters, sunflowers, wing stem, ironweed, and goldenrod are just a few that should be in bloom.  All hikes, unless noted, will be moderately strenuous, 3 hours in length, and will meet at the main entrance to the Preserve on Athens-Boonesboro Road.  If you are using a GPS to locate the Preserve, our address is 1945 Athens-Boonesboro Road, Winchester, Ky.  Please call to reserve your spot, as we try to keep our groups small to offer the best experience for everyone.  (859) 744-4888

  • October 24, 10:00 a.m.  Cooler temperatures will make more strenuous hikes less stressful, so this hike will explore the loop trail that allows long views to the north and south of the Preserve.  Tree leaf color should be at its peak on this hike. StreOther hikes this fall may have guest tour guides, including archaeologists, forest ecologists, and photographers.  Check the website:  lowerhowardscreek.org for more information on activities at the Preserve.  If you would like to tour the Preserve on a private guided hike, arrangements can be made to do so by calling the number listed above.
