The Winchester Art Guild is sponsoring an oil painting class by Jack Cochran of Lexington on Saturday, November 15, at the 18 West Lex. Ave. Artisans Shop. Cochran’s art takes many forms, primarily oil painting, but also includes drawing from life and watercolor paintings. He is a late-deafened person who states that the language of art is his visual communication mode. Cochran acquired B.A. and B.F.A. degrees from UK, and was the first deaf artist to receive a degree in art studio at the University of Kentucky, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2006. His artworks are exhibited at various galleries in the Bluegrass Region. The workshop will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a break for lunch at noon, and a floral oil painting will be completed that day. There is a limit of 10 students, and the price is $40. Students may register on line at www.winchesterartguild.com, and access the supply list there or at the gallery. Art Guild President Sue White states that this event is one of several guest instructor classes to be featured at the gallery’s classroom in the coming months.
